Presumptuous

I submitted a ticket to a local hosting company asking if they have private registration for domains. This is the answer I got:

Hello,
At the moment our packages have free domain privacy but that may change in the future.
Why do you need domain privacy, what type of site do you plan to run?
Kindly read our TOS at [xxxxxxxxxx]/terms most specially the Acceptable Use Policy.

It's disappointing that they would ask something like that plus give you their TOS at the same time. Their choice of words and manner of delivery makes me think they are suspicious.

I got my domain through Google Apps and the private registration was offered as part of the package, no questions asked.

Oh well... They probably have thousands upon thousands of customers so they don't need me.

This made it easier for me to choose the alternative solution.

Hagupit ng Habagat

Hagupit ng Habagat roughly means the violent whip or attack of the Southwest monsoon.

It was even worst than typhoons Jolina (July 2009) and Ondoy (Sept. 2009). We were flooded for 3 to 4 days, almost waist high.

Here are pictures of the flooding inside the house.

My mother, wet look

In the living room,

My mother's floating water bed

Water nearly reached my window
These are pictures taken on Monday evening. The water reached the table Tuesday dawn, higher than what's seen here.

I need to leave this place. Not safe anymore.

Please READ

When I was growing up my mother had her way of making me do or look for things. When I ask here where something is, she would tell me to look for it. After looking for 1 minute, I'd go back to her and ask her where it is, she would say, "Use your eyes, not your mouth for look." She did it a few times with me and I learned my lesson.

This has been my belief. I would try to figure out things first before asking for help. If I feel I have been given the tools and the skills and the resources, why not look for the solution to the problem, right?

Of course, it it's something I really don't know, I ask for help.

I noticed a lot of people who don't seem to know how to follow instructions or don't know how to read. I've posted a few want ads online and there's always someone who will ask me what to do when the instructions are shown clearly in my ads.

Example:

We are looking for workers, blah, blah, blah.
Requirements are la d ida...
If interested, send me a message through my Skype ID [[ my ID]] or send me an e-mail [[ my email address]].

I would get a comment like this:

Hi I'm interested. I have worked as blah blah and I have la di da. My Skype ID is [[something]].

Come on! Didn't I give my contact info? Do you expect me to contact you when there are others who have already submitted their requirements?

And there are those who, for some reason, need to be told what to do. I posted the link to my blog where the ad was posted. This is on Facebook. The content of the post didn't show on Facebook, just the link to the blog plus the heading Someone is looking for workers...

Someone posted a comment, "How do I apply?" I think it's pretty obvious that the natural thing to do is to follow the link.

Sigh...

Reminds me of this cartoon from Johnny Wander:

Strange, Scary

A few minutes ago, I took out the trash to the gate so that it would be easy to take it to the basurero when they arrive. I did not notice our next door neighbor (I live in a compound) was looking out her 2nd floor window. As I turned to head back to the house, she called me.

"Fiona," I heard faintly. I turned and I saw her on the 2nd floor of her house. "Auntie," I acknowledge her presence. "Hindi ka ba natatakot na mag isa dyan sa bahay mo?" I smiled and responded, "Hindi po. Takot na po ang mga multo sa akin." We both laughed. But as I walked away, I wondered why she asked that question. I've been living in this house alone for more than 2 years now but she never mentioned anything like this to me. Then I remembered the tsismis I heard about her, people said she is a mangkuku***. No one can really say that she is one. She and her family are kinda strange. I thought maybe she sees something ordinary humans do not see? I wanted to rush back to the gate to ask her if she has seen or sensed something in my house but I was afraid I would offend her.

I am not psychic but there have been instances wherein I have sensed or seen something in this house: a radio dial turning and changing stations by itself, floating dresses, footfalls in my room when no one is there, etc. Last time I sensed something was late last year after my uncle died. I saw a shadow pass by me while I was in still in bed watching TV. It could have been my imagination.

Good luck to me.

Good Heavens! Good Luck!

The heat is starting to get worse! Sumasakit na ulo ko sa init. I'm worried I won't be able to get quality sleep beacause of this. Haayy.

It's my off. I was able to finish my laundry yesterday, 3 batches. Kung may pera lang ako bibili ako ng automatic washing machine para isang saksakan lang puwede ko na iwan. What I'm using now is semi-automatic. Oh well...

This morning, I was amused at the news on Unang Hirit. Erap can run again according to him. Sabi na nga ba. Kaya maingay sya kasi he's a sore loser and he wants to oust the person who took his place. Kulang siguro nahuthot nya during his term and he wants more.

I'm glad some of the people during the inter-faith rally walekd out when Erap spoke. The people who walked out showed some delikadesa. Erap had no right to speak there since he is corrupt himself. Na aliw ako when a media man from Agence France Press pratically pinpointed to Erap na mandarambong sya. Napikon daw si Erap. Hehehe. Eh diba totoo naman? He was convicted of plunder and now he wants GMA to step down so he can pick up where he left off? He's a freaking hypocrite!

I am also dismayed at what's been happening to Jun Lozada. Why is he going from school to school, town to town to campaign? Tatakbo ba sya or nagpo-promote ng pelikula? Who is funding this campaign thing of Lozada? What is his purpose? What's the real reason behind the people who are pushing him to do this? If I were Lozada, I should be wary of the people who are using him. Once he has served his purpose, he will be useless to them. No one is indispensable.

If GMA steps down. who will take her place? Laht nagkakaisa para paalisin si GMA but when asked who will take her place, nagkakagulo na, hindi na sila magkaisa. Hay naku... Lumalabas ang mga real motives.

We are a country of hypocrites talaga.

I am for the cause, but not with the system. Nadinig ko na ito dati, nung nasa college pa ako. Panahon pa ni Makoy, alam nyo naman sa UP, mahilig sa churky hehehe. Who will take GMA's place? I don't think there is anyone qualified to take her place. No one in this country can call himself morally upright. Kung meron man puwedeng pumalit kay GMA na morally upright, good luck to you!

RIP: Heath Ledger

I saw PearlJem on googletalk with this status message. I asked her if it's true, totoo daw. Shocking! Heath Ledger dead at 28.

I felt a bit sad because somehow he reminds me of someome and it's kinda unnerving to imagine that this someone could be him.

Que lastima...

Ate ng Bayan

I described myself (on my blogger profile) as Ate ng Bayan. This was true when I was in my late twenties', till mid thirties. Everybody used to call me ate (big sister). Lately, people (esp in the call center industry) would call me mommy. Pak! I'm really OLD! People at the call center are half my age! Waaahhh!! Huhuhu!!

Well, I'm old na nga. I'm turing 40 in a few days.

I'm not celebrating my age.

Duhh!

22 yr old killed after being drawn into deceptive cyber romance

I'm sure a lot of people have seen this image:

I was reminded of this when I read about this news of this 22 year old kid who was killed over a deceitful cyber relationship.

An 18 year old Marine who was preparing for deplyoment has been constantly chatting with a young attractive lady who sent him pictures of her, even her lingerie.
In reality, the man Thomas Montgomery is actually a 47 year old married man while the woman is in her 40s and was sending out pics of her daughter. The wife intercepted one gift coming from the woman and she sent her a letter saying Montgomery had fooled her because he's 47 and married.
The woman remembered Montgomery's co worker, 22 year old Brian Barrett, so she called him at work to ask if Montgomery is really married and all. From here on they became friends and was in constant contact with each other. Inspite of what happened between her and Montgomery, they remained friends. She even told him that Barrett's been her communicating with her on a regular basis. This got Montgomery jealous. He shot Barrett .30-caliber rifle at close range.

Here's the twist: little did both men know, this supposedly 20-something attractive lady is actually a 40plus woman sending pics of her daughter! Hah!
Montgomery's wife has filed for divorce and it seems she and her kids have left their conjugal home in suburban Cheektowaga, where Miss 40plus sent Montgomery her lingerie that got intercepted by the wife.

Strange twist of fate. This is what you get for lying and cheating. I hope Mark reads this.

Magnanakaw!!!

Around 45 minutes ago, I heard someone screaming on the street. I thought the neighborhood kids were just fooling around but I decided to look a few minutes later. A young lady got robbed in the middle of this sleepy baranggay in Imus, Cavite. The robbers were riding a motorbike armed with a knife. The young lady had another lady companion but her bag was snatched from her just the same. She was carrying 50K with her. She didn't scream for help, she was just screaming. The menfolk didn't realize she needed help till it was a bit too late. They tried to run after the theives but they got away.

Grabe! Sunday 10AM in my own neighborhood. This isn't the first incidence of bag grabbing by motorbike riding theives. My next door neighbors, they were also robbed the same way but the incidents happened late at night and around 3AM.

When I first got here, I noticed people casually using cellphones while walking or on the jeep, people having cellphones dangling from their necks. Initially I was shocked kasi nga baka mahablot cellphones nila. Surprisingly wala akong nakita or narinig except for 1 incident of a cellphone nakawan in school, a grade 6 pupil brought her N90 phone to school kaya ayon, ninakaw. Anyway, I never heard of any snatching incidents till recently. First I heard happened around 3 or 4 months ago around 3AM. The lady was on her way to Baclaran to buy goods to sell. Kanina her daughter admitted getting robbed too, a few months after her mother got robbed. Call center agent kasi, so gabi sya na nakawan somewhere in Bayang Luma I think.

A local once told me that Cavite isn't a place for petty theives. Cavitenos do not tolerate theives and petty criminals. According to him people here would rather kill than steal, they say there is no honor in stealing. Mga dayo lang daw ang malakas ang loob na magnakaw dito.

People here are good are always willing to help, I hope there is a way to encourage the bayanihan spirit in Imus inorder to fight crime. Mahirap isipin na maari kang manakawan at masaktan sa loob ng sarili mong community.

DFA probes racial profiling of Filipinos in California

I don't usually read all the news feeds about the Philippines. When I get, I just scan them. This particular feed caught my eye.
This news is about an American kid getting abducted by men whom he indentified as Filipinos:

THE Department of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday that it was investigating reports that several Filipinos in the Union City in Alameda County, California, were in an uproar after a nine-year-old American boy who escaped a kidnap attempt identified his would-be abductors as Filipinos.

A California-based Filipino community newspaper, the Philippine News, reported that the Union City Police received a phone call on December 5 from the Pioneer School Principal about a foiled kidnapping of one of the school’s pupils.

Read the rest of story here.

This news is kinda alarming. Either the kid is right, that the kidnappers are Filipinos; or the kid is wrong but "brown skinned criminals" are Filipinos.

*Sigh*
